The family of frugivorous birds is very different and there is many variation in the species.

We have the small fruit eaters like the tanagers, mannakins,… who also like nectar. Then you have the family of the exotic starlings, jays, arasaris and the fruit pigeons. And finally we have the largest representatives, the toucans and of course the hornbills.

One thing they have in common: the natural diet of these birds mainly exists of fruits and berries. But in the wild they also take insects.

Very important in the diet of frugivorous birds is the iron content. Nutravian put lots of research into this and we guarantee an iron content below 75ppm.

We also need to keep in mind the correlation between Iron and Vit C. So we put great attention to the Vit C content as well.

TIP : Hornbills do not drink water! So they need to take humidity out of the food. They will get this out of the different fruits and berries. You can soak the Nutravian nutribalance pellets so it becomes like a sponge. In this way, the pellets will bring humidity to the birds. Of course the pellets can be mixed with the fruits.
